Donor’s Story

One of the main reasons I decided to join the registry is because of the lack of African Americans on the registry. Think about if it was your child, think about if it was your sister – don’t let fear be the only reason you don’t help someone or save a life. I hope one day I’m able to meet my recipient and thank him for making me a better person.

LaurenBlood Stem Cell Donor

Operation Save Our Selves (SOS) is a movement created to normalize the idea of joining the NMDP℠ registry for Black people to help save more Black lives. There’s a cure for blood cancers like leukemia and blood disorders such as sickle cell anemia – a blood stem cell transplant from a matched donor. However, the current makeup of the NMDP Registry℠ reflects a significant problem: People who identify as Black are severely underrepresented. Therefore, Black patients don’t have an equal chance of receiving a life-saving stem cell transplant. Join the movement—along with 30 HBCUs, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, Student National Medical Association, and others—to help save more Black lives today!

FarmHouse Fraternity and NMDP℠ have a long history together. The FarmHouse International Executive Board officially adopted NMDP℠ as their philanthropy at FarmHouse’s Conclave in 2008. Approximately 3,000 registry members can be directly attributed to FarmHouse’s recruitment efforts, which has resulted in 32 life-saving donations for patients in need. Going back even further, NMDP℠ co-founder, Dr. Robert Graves, was a proud member of FarmHouse; and the Graves family legacy continues to live on.
